The main course of the development of the refractory industry in the past 30 years

Jun. 21, 2021

The rapid growth of high-temperature industrial production capacity and output has increased the market demand for refractory materials and strongly stimulated the rapid growth of refractory output.

In the past 30 years, my country's national economy is developing at the fastest stage, and the production capacity and output of various industries in high-temperature industries have grown rapidly. The market demand for refractory materials is expanding rapidly, which strongly promotes the rapid development of the refractory industry.

The main course of the development of the refractory industry in the past 30 years

Over the past 30 years, the steel industry, cement industry, non-ferrous metal industry, flat glass industry and chemical, electric power, ceramics, waste incineration and other industries have achieved rapid growth; at the same time, the production capacity of various high-temperature industries has continued to increase, and infrastructure investment has continued to increase. The demand for refractory materials for infrastructure projects is also increasing. Therefore, the demand for refractory materials continues to expand and the demand continues to grow, which provides unprecedented development space for the refractory industry. In 1990, the national output of refractory raw materials and products was 6.75 million tons. By 2007, it reached 41.82 million tons, an increase of 519% over 1990 and an average annual growth rate of 29%. In 2008, the national output of refractory products was 24.54 million tons. In 2008, it dropped slightly to 24.31 million tons; in 2011, it was as high as 29.5 million tons, and it began to decline year by year in 2014. The main reasons for the decline in refractory output are: First, the main downstream industries have overcapacity, and the demand for refractory materials for infrastructure projects has rapidly decreased since 2014. The second is the improvement of the quality of refractory products, and the consumption of refractory materials is decreasing year by year.

In the 30 years since the establishment of the China Refractory Industry Association, the refractory industry has experienced the difficult operation of the initial stage of the market economy, the development and growth of private enterprises, the remarkable achievements in structural adjustment, and the initial results of the increase in industrial concentration, which can be roughly divided into the following three stages :

The first ten years (1990~1999):

The 1990s was a decade of difficult production and operation in the refractory industry, a decade of the emergence of private refractory product manufacturers, and a decade of extremely fierce market competition.

Mid-decade (2000~2009):

The 1990s was the initial stage of development for private refractory product manufacturers, and the mid-decade was the decade for private refractory product manufacturers to develop and grow. Among the top 15 companies in 2009, private companies accounted for 66.67%, and private companies accounted for 80% of the top 10 companies.

The total sales revenue of the top 10 companies was 10.791 billion yuan, of which private enterprises accounted for 79.61%; the total sales revenue of the top 15 companies was 13.695 billion yuan, of which private enterprises accounted for 75.90%.

The recent ten years (2010~2019):

The recent ten years have been a decade in which the industrial concentration of the refractory industry has increased rapidly. The key refractory enterprises in this decade have rapidly expanded their scale through their own development and joint reorganization, and have made positive contributions to the improvement of the industrial concentration of the industry.

In 2008, the sales revenue of the top 10 enterprises was only 10.626 billion yuan, accounting for about 9.0% of the total sales revenue of refractory products; in 2010, it was 14.228 billion yuan, accounting for about 12%; by 2019, it reached 26.04 billion yuan, about It accounts for about 22%, an increase of 10 percentage points over 2010 and an increase of 13 percentage points over 2008.
