Xinyue Steel Group received an new order from our regular client in Singapore at June 2020. It’s marine piling pipes with SSAW spiral steel pipe API 5L PSL1 X52 diameter 812.8mm, wall thickness 20mm, length in 8-13m, 60pcs, about 290tons in total. As this project is very important, client kept same technical requirements which were applied on last order, on this order, there’re many more strict requirements beside 100% conformity of API 5L PSL1 46th. Like:

1. Constructed of steel API L PSL1 X52 that has mechanical properties that conform with API 5L PSL1 Grade X52, and raw material should be procured from a pre-approved mill. If materials are procured from a mill that is not a pre-approved mill, we’re required to undertake the following tests: chemical composition, yield strength, tensile strength and elongation and impact properties. Charpy tests to be done at 0 degrees Celsius with individual tests meeting 20J and an average of 3 tests of 27J.

4 sets of specimens per heat no. should be tested for chemical and mechanical properties in accordance with API 5L Acceptance criteria shall be in accordance with the chemical and mechanical that the test results conform to API 5L PSL1 as a minimum.

2. As part of the WPS for each grade of steel to be welded, in addition to the PQR sample testing, client requires phased array UT or RT at a CNAS qualified lab of a 500mm portion of the weld from the same specimen plate from which the PQR sample will be taken to confirm it conforms with the requirements of AP 5L Annex E. The phased array UT or RT must be performed at least 48hrs after the specimen plate has been welded. The phased array UT or RT testing may be done at a qualified and mutually agreed lab. For the avoidance of doubt, if the phased array UT or RT identifies the sample is not in conformance with API 5L Annex E the WPS will not receive approval from client.

3.UT & RT inspection of the welds should also be performed by TPI with manual device again after all NDT on-line.

Based on the success, that all goods delivered by Xinyue Steel Group were 100% qualified with API 5L and also 100% conformed with client’s particular technical requirements, on last order, both client & Xinyue Steel Group are very confident on this job. Currently, all pipes are under-producing, I wish our cooperation success again.
