South Africa and Australia launch anti-dumping investigations on Chinese steel products

Recently, the South African International Trade Management Committee (ITAC) issued a notice to finalize the case of product safeguard measures such as imported hexagonal screws (customs tax number: 73181539), and decided to impose a safeguards tax at a rate of 50.54%.

On March 1, the South African International Trade Commission (on behalf of the Southern African Customs Union - SACU, member states including Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana) issued an announcement on imported screw bolt products (threaded fasteners of iron or steel: bolt ends & screw studs, screw studding,and other hexagon nuts of iron or steel (excluding those of stainless steel and those identifiable for aircraft) initiated the investigation of safeguard measures. The product tax numbers involved were 73181541, 73181 542, 73181630. Australia launches anti-dumping investigation against Chinese angle steel products
On February 26, 2019, the Australian Anti-Dumping Committee issued Circular No. 2019/26 stating that an anti-dumping investigation against Solid Base Angle products imported from China was initiated at the request of its domestic company Galintel Pty Ltd. The dumping investigation period of this case is the whole year of 2018, and the damage investigation period begins on January 1, 2015.
According to the announcement of the case, the products under investigation are listed in the Australian Customs Coding System under the categories of 7216.61.0057, 7228.70.0012, 7308.30.0007 and 7308.90.0064. The products involved do not include T-shaped steel, flat steel, perforated steel and hot rolling. Steel and so on.
According to the investigation procedure announced by the Australian side, stakeholders should submit relevant materials by April 4, 2019. The Australian Anti-Dumping Committee is expected to make a preliminary ruling 60 days after the filing of the case and a final ruling on June 17.
