According to foreign media on June 27th, JSW Steel of India said that it plans to build steel production capacity of JSW Vijayanagar Works in Karnataka by March 2020. Increased to 13 million metric tons per year.
The planned capacity will increase by approximately 8.3% over the current capacity of 12 million metric tons per year. Together with other expansion and upgrade projects, the company will spend Rs 75 billion ($1.1 billion).
“The company will improve and optimize steel smelters, flat and long product rolling units, and related equipment to take full advantage of the extra hot metal,” JSW Steel said.
As capacity increases, JSW Steel plans to build a coking plant with an annual production capacity of 1.5 million metric tons in Vijayanagar.
JSW Steel said it expects the new coking plant to “fill the current and expected coke supply gap and is expected to test production in March 2020”.
“Because India’s steel consumption is expected to rise, these expansion plans will ensure that we meet the steel needs of emerging customers in a timely manner,” said Vinod Nowal, vice president of JSW Steel.
In order to meet the growing demand for steel, JSW Steel is working to increase the comprehensive capacity of the No. 1 cold rolling mill at Vijayanagar Plant from 800,000 metric tons per year to 1 million metric tons per year, while creating a new color coating with an annual output of 300,000 metric tons. Steel production line.
In order to meet the raw material demand of the steel production line, JSW Steel said it has started mining iron ore at the Tunga and Nandi mines in Karnataka. The total ore capacity of the two mines is 710,000 metric tons per year.
JSW Steel expects to receive mining licenses and official approvals for the other three mines during the fiscal year. The total production capacity of these five mines will reach 4.66 million metric tons per year.
“Once these five mines are fully operational, they are expected to meet approximately 20% of the iron ore demand in the steelmaking division of the JSW Vijayanagar plant,” JSW Steel said.
