The domestic scrap market continues to operate weakly
Aug. 30, 2021
Last week, the domestic steel scrap market continued to show a weak pattern. Market resources were tight, merchants had difficulty receiving goods, steel mills were still able to arrive, and inventories remained stable. Most of the key steel companies adjusted their purchase prices according to their own conditions.
Compared with the previous week, the average purchase price of scrap for key steel enterprises has been reduced by 18 yuan/ton for heavy scrap, 22 yuan/ton for medium-sized scrap, and 11 yuan/ton for bulk scrap.
Last week, the steel market fluctuated and weakened, and the price of iron ore continued to fall. As a result, steel mills were not willing to purchase scrap, and they lowered their scrap purchase prices. However, it is learned from the merchants that the overall transaction in the scrap steel market is relatively weak, and the processing bases receive more materials as they go on the market. In the case of rising transportation costs, although steel mills' scrap consumption has decreased slightly compared with the previous period, the overall consumption is still at a relatively high historical level, and the power curtailment policy is loosened, scrap demand will gradually rise. Industry insiders predict that the scrap market will be weakened in the short term, and there will be limited room for price reductions.
