On January 27th, nine steel companies were selected for the China Industrial Heritage Protection List.

On February 6, the new national standard for rebar (code: GB/T 1499.2-2018) was released and officially implemented on November 1, 2018.

On March 15th, the national standard "Steel Structure Design Standard" (GB50017-2017) edited by MCC Jingcheng was approved by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and will be implemented on July 1, 2018.

On March 16, the first batch of seven group standards such as the "Steel Wire for Car Seat Skeleton" was released.

On May 4th, the iron ore futures of Dashang was officially introduced into the business of overseas traders. This is the first time that China's listed commodity futures varieties have been opened to the outside world.

On May 16, the 18th China International Metallurgical Industry Exhibition was opened. On May 17, the 10th China International Iron and Steel Congress was held.

On May 18th, the JIT+C2M Summit Forum of “High Quality Development of Steel Powerful Country” co-sponsored by China Metallurgical News Agency and Nangang was held in Nanjing, Jiangsu.

On June 5, Shougang Group officially became the official partner of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics, and became the highest level sponsor of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee.

On August 30, the Shanghai Futures Exchange issued an announcement to amend the wire futures contract and delivery rules, which were implemented on August 31, 2018.

From September 8th to 9th, 2018 “Looking for Steel Mesh Cup” steel industry environmental knowledge contest was held in Hegang Tangshan Steel.

On September 13, Huabao Metallurgical Asset Management Co., Ltd., the first asset management company in the metallurgical industry initiated by China Baowu, China Eastern Asset Management Co., Ltd., Anshan Iron and Steel and Maanshan Iron & Steel Investment Co., Ltd., was unveiled.

On September 15th, the 9th National Steel Industry Vocational Skills Competition, which was known as the “Steel Olympics”, was officially opened.

On September 27th, the 2018 Metallurgical Industry Media Alliance Annual Meeting and Publicity and Public Opinion Work Seminar was held in Jiangsu Sugang.

On October 24th, the National Federation of Industry and Commerce issued the "List of 100 Outstanding Private Entrepreneurs in the 40 Years of Reform and Opening up", and Shen Wenrong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shagang Group, was selected.

On October 29th, the Third Meeting of the 10th Council of the China Institute of Metals and the 7th Standing Council were held.

On November 17, the National Waste Steel Conference of 2018 revealed that China's scrap steel ratio was 20.1% in the first three quarters of the previous year, an increase of 4.3 percentage points year-on-year, and the “13th Five-Year Plan for Waste Steel Industry” was proposed two years and three months ahead of schedule. The scrap ratio is expected to reach 20%.

On November 30th, the 40-year reform and opening up of the steel industry green development forum jointly sponsored by China Metallurgical News and China Environmental Protection Federation was held in Beijing.

On December 12th, after the primary election, WeChat voting, expert review and other links, China Metallurgical News Agency selected the "Facilitary Enterprise of the 40th Anniversary of the Reform and Opening of the Iron and Steel Industry". On December 22nd, the summit of the 40th anniversary of the reform and opening up of the steel industry jointly sponsored by China Metallurgical News and Anshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. was held in Anshan. At the meeting, 40 steel meritorious enterprises and 20 steel support class meritorious enterprises were commended.

On December 18th, at the celebration of the 40th anniversary of reform and opening up, Liu Hanzhang (deceased), former chairman and general manager of Handan Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd., Angang Group worker and contemporary Lei Feng Guo Mingyi was awarded the title of reform pioneer.

On December 21st, Baogang Wulan Muqi (Red Culture Task Force) unveiled the flag-raising ceremony, which is the first Wulan animal husbandry in China's steel industry.

On December 22nd, the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Dawan District Metal New Materials Industry Alliance was unveiled in Guangzhou.
